HEFCE conference a total embarrassment

Sorry for the lateness of this News but I just found this out myself. According to the St Albans Observer last weekend the University of Hertfordshire hosted all the senior biggies from Universities around England including the likes of Chancellors, etc and it was a total fiasco.
5+ rooms were raided and thousands of pounds worth of valuables were taken including laptops, jewelery, etc. Not bad from just 5 rooms, but a shame that it happened when the University could have been in the news in such a positive way.
Apparently the university is taking this ‘very seriously’, well I should hope so, I would like to know if my stuff got stolen they didn’t just roll there eyes.
Paul Digswell commented on the S.A Observers site that the message sent to the public in regards to this incident was clearly ‘….come to Hertfordshire and get your stuff pinched.’ Nice (sarcasm here).
Its already challenging enough for ‘new’ universities to get equal opportunity access to hosting major events of this kind and I imagine the other ‘new’ universities are rolling their eyes thinking ‘great now its going to be forever before we even get a chance to host an event like this —- big thank you to UH for the screw up’
I go to UH DeHaviland campus where this happened and I can say I have a lovely MacBook Pro and most people would kill to steal it but its still in my hands and I even go to the Library (LRC) with it and its still there when I come back from the Toilet. To be fair I lock it when I leave but still if someone really wanted it that bad there is never much you can do to stop the determined.
I guess what I am saying is, this theft took effort or was very opportunistic and either way there is no protecting against that. My heart goes out to those whom lost their laptops as if you are like me the laptop is really irrelevant, its the business and personal contacts, the photos of your travels, essay’s and much more. As for the cost of laptop yeah its not cheap but its easily a fixable situation but losing your memories as they say is ‘irreplaceable’.
